Back to News

About 5,078 acres of land have been brought under organic farming in Punjab under a scheme sponsored by the Union Government, the State Assembly was informed on Tuesday.

Replying to a question raised by Makhan Singh, MLA, during the question hour in the State Assembly here today, Punjab's Forest Minister Tikshan Sud said that a centrally-sponsored scheme for popularisation of organic farming in the state had been introduced in the year 2007-08.

Under the scheme, Rs 15.20 lakh had been allocated by the Centre and training programmes on organic farming were also being organised for the farmers in the state.

"A Model Organic Farm of over 577 acres of land has been set up by the Organic Farming Council of Punjab at Ropar for production, demonstration and training on organic farming and commercial vermicompost production," he said.
